Filmmakers Reloaded Gets Connected! We told you about the Get Connected Networking Event now you dont want to miss this month’s event!

Founder of Get Connected Autmn Essie Bailey-Ford and her team have been working hard to make sure this monthly event gets bigger and better each month! And so far they have done just that!

From Gordon Biersch Brewery to Fox Sports Grill and now to the luxurious 200 Peachtree Get Connected is outgrowing venues and expanding!

As always, In addition to networking there will be screenings, raffles, vendors and much more. We are extremely excited about the screenings this month!

Friend and supporter of Filmmakers Reloaded Crystle Clear Roberson will be screening her never before seen version of her short film “The Black Cage” at Get Connected! The Black Cage was recently a Top 7 Finalist in the BET Lens On Talent Competition and was screened on the station as well as BET.com. Supporters of Filmmakers Reloaded Dianne Ashford of Symmetry Entertainment and Reginald Harrison of Coldfinger Studios were also a part of this film!

“The Black Cage” is a film about a man’s battle with his own comfort zones. The pain of bondage. The burden of freedom.

But that’s not it! Filmmakers Reloaded Founder/CEO JP AUTHOR had the opportunity to work on the film Hesitation, that will also be screening at Get Connected! Supporter of Filmmakers Reloaded Janlatae Mullins, the talented Director who was behind this great film! Hesitation was named “Best Drama” at the 2011 International Campus Movie Fest and will continue on to the Finals in Hollywood!

Atlanta Film Festival Recap: CINformation Seminar Series and Filmmakers Reloaded top Movie Picks!

Last week the Landmark Midtown Art Cinema, Plaza Theatre, LaFont Cinema Sandy Springs, and the W Hotel Midtown, was packed with hundreds of film lovers and film makers as they enjoyed the 35th Atlanta Film Festival!

With over 30 films and 101 Reasons why you should go to the Atlanta Film Festival, the Filmmakers Reloaded crew was excited about the inaugural CINformation Seminars.

The CINformation Seminar Series was a new feature introduced by the Atlanta Film Festival this year! It featured diverse workshops and panels that catered to the indie filmmaker. It didn’t matter if you were award winning filmmaker or an aspiring filmmaker there was a panel for you!

On Saturday April 30, industry professionals filled up a meeting room in the W Hotel Midtown for an all day CINformation event. Moderated my Andrew Velcoff of Greenberg Traurig, the three seminars were intense and filled with informative elements of filmmaking from the importance of film incentives to financing structures.

The rest of the festival offered more seminars that spoke to the true indie filmmaker. As indie filmmakers ourselves, of course the Filmmakers Reloaded team was there to soak up all the information to share with you all! Not only did Filmmakers Reloaded cover some of the CINformations, very our Queen worked as the volunteer captain of the CINformation series!

The Impact and Importance of Film Tax Incentives

Georgia offers a 30% tax incentive to productions with a 500,000 min budget.

Utilize the Georgia Film Office to assist with helping find locations for your production.

You can bundle projects to meet the 500,000 budget as long as the productions are under the same company.

How to Pitch Your Project

Panelist: Mike Lazzo, Scot Safon, Brad Siegel

Don’t waste your time pitching the wrong project. Match the project with the person you are pitching to.

A good script is more powerful than a pitch.

Sometimes a network wants controversy. It’s built in publicity.

If you don’t have a track record, make sure you can pitch your idea in one line and it is packaged well. You must get the networks attention.

How to make a Living as a Freelancer

Get involved win the film community. You have to be able to make connections and create opportunities.

Everyone supporting the GA film business is important! This is not Hollywood and we are still emerging. We need to stick together.

The better experience the creator of the show has in ATL the better the chance that they will come back to create more shows.

The film is a Fairytale/Parable about the child sex trafficking epidemic that has overrun our city of Atlanta. We are using the film to not only raise awareness but provoke meaningful action towards this issue taking place in our own backyard.

*The Start of Dreams was a big hit at the Atlanta Film Festival! With three sold out shows it was a must see film!

Three young hopefuls claim their acting scholarship prizes at the Atlanta regionals and prepare for the August Wilson Monologue Competition on Broadway, under the guidance of Tony-nominated Kenny Leon. Leon and Denzel Washington describe how state support helped their early careers. But as Leon’s protégées learn the value of their craft and unlock their potential, Georgia’s arts funding comes underthreat and with it theater programs like Leon’s.

As you can see the 35th Atlanta Film Festival was eventful, informative, and inspiring, and entertaining! Having the opportunity to see great indie films is always a plus but the push to educate and inform with the new CINformation Seminar Series is what brought this festival to the top. As filmmakers it is important for us to understand that we must continue to learn! There are many elements that would help filmmakers perfect their craft, and most of these elements were covered in the CINformation Seminar Series. Let’s just hope the filmmakers in attendance took notes and is ready to use these tips to produce that award winning film to submit to the next Atlanta Film Festival!!

Micro Budget, Major Film

Filmmakers Reloaded was honored to be invited to the panel Micro Budget, Major Film hosted by the Morehouse Filmmakers Association and L R Productions. Panelists Stephen M. Gibson, Jr. and John R. Cleveland shared their valuable experience in producing a successful Major film on a Micro budget to a room of eager aspiring filmmakers.

Stephen and John’s laid-back demeanor brought a sense of calmness to the room. In addition to honestly speaking about the process of filming Fall of the Hunter’s Moon, the panelists showed genuine interest in everyone sitting in the audience, primarily Morehouse students. The students openly asked Stephen and John questions about the difficulties of filmmaking on a microbudget. They even allowed me to put my two cents in on a few topics :-)

Topics ranging from the infamous traditional film school v. non film school debate to going through the filmmaking process (from pre-production to distribution), this panel was informative, entertaining, and inspiring.

I think panels like this are so valuable for indie filmmakers. Especially filmmakers who are just getting their foot in the door. MONEY SHOULD NEVER STOP YOU FROM MAKING A FILM! I can’t stress this enough! With a community full of ambitious filmmakers and talent looking for experience there is no excuse!!

From beginning sketches to the actual headgear the talent wore on set, Stephen and John shared their personal experience of taking their vision from paper to film.

A Glance at my Notes:

Press is your best tool being an indie filmmaker.

Make sure you separate yourself from the illegitimate productions talking place. Set up a business plan.

You have to be prepared for a production. Do a script breakdown and be efficient.

If you have a legit business (letterhead, business cards) you will attract people who will provide production value.

Biggest asset for a producer is to be able to find ways to make things happen with a microbudget.

You have to have a strict budget! You need to be able to say “no” to some things.

Build your own jibs and dollies to save money.

Utilize crowd funding to fund your movie (they used IndieGogo).

On Tuesday April 12, 2011 WIFTA along with the Digital Moving Images Salon of Spelman College hosted Digital Doyenness: Wisdom from the Women who Lead in Social Media and Digital Innovation. As a female filmmaker who is the Social Media Manager for Filmmakers Reloaded I knew this would be an event that I MUST be at! Well I am ALSO the editor for FMR and on Tuesday I was working on the rough cut and promo for the first episode of our new talk show Let’s Talk Film with JP AUTHOR.

Needless to say I wasn’t able to attend but the event was streamed online via Ustream!!! Imagine me sitting in front of three screens….Final Cut, After Effects, and Twitter Mac App (so I can tweet from my personal account and the FMR account, @FMReloaded.

I honestly enjoyed viewing the event online! When you are in the midst of an event sometimes it can be a tad overwhelming to listen, take notes for the blog, AND live tweet! Although I was technically doing the same thing it seem easier from the comfort of the FMR studio!

The event focused on using social media as a tool to your expand your brand and promote your project. With a panel of energetic intelligent social media queens, the event was quite entertaining! I learned, laughed, and connected…yep sitting right at the computer!

Through blogging you can tell a story

Figure out which platform is best for your audience and what they’re talking about

People will never forget what you say online! And it’s never private!

Make sure the info you do put out represents YOU and your brand.

Don’t think about Social Media as promotion. Think about it as connection

YOU run the technology, the technology does not run YOU

Best way to build followers: be true to your passion and talk about how others can help support that passion

LinkedIn is your Chamber of Commerce, Facebook is a family reunion, and twitter is a cocktail party.

Some may say festival season is the most important time for an Independent Filmmaker. For some, film festivals may be the only platform for filmmakers to showcase their films on the silver screen!

In November 2010, The BronzeLens Film Festival launched its inaugural festival right here in Atlanta, GA. In addition to great film screenings, the Bronzelens Film Festival offered the attendees a plethora of informative industry related Workshops and Master Classes. This element alone separated BronzeLens from any other festival in the city.

One of the most popular workshops offered was the Alternative Careers in Filmpresented by Tyler Perry Studios Executive Vice President, Roger Bobb.

This particular workshop focused on the different career paths in the film industry. It highlighted the various crews that work hard behind the scenes to make a production successful. From Producer Angi Bones to Make-up Artist Patrice Coleman, the panel was well represented with diverse roles and key players from Tyler Perry Studios.

In addition to blessing the audience with their inspirational stories of how they began in the film industry, the panel shared information about their individual roles at TPS along with how essential each crew is to one another; especially in a high volume, fast paced studio like Tyler Perry Studios.
